Food Photography. I’ve worked in the Food & Beverage industry for the better part of 2 decades. That’s a long time to be slinging drinks. I’ve often said that everyone should work in a restaurant for a little bit. I find the restaurant culture to be a fascinating one and have grown through my interactions here. These days it’s more of a hobby/social release/anti-aging practice that I engage in regularly to stay sharp. I also find the restaurant to be a particularly creative and inspiring setting. Food and flavors, ambiance and infrastructure…all of it stimulates the senses.
So.
It would make sense that as a photographer, I should work with food whenever possible. To make pictures that communicate sensual appeal. The tastes,,,smell, context of the dish, the ambiance of the establishment. Food photography should translate this. Here are some images that I made for my friends at Nox Cocktail & Comfort Food Lounge in the Village Gate in Rochester, NY. Nox fancies itself Rochester’s premier ‘geek pub’ and has a menu that is chalk-full of delicious offerings named after famous artist, writers, literary and pop culture characters/references. Check it out if you haven’t. …and if you come along on the right night, you may just get yours truly behind the bar!
I had a blast styling and photographing these unique offerings. I hope that you enjoy.
